Tetbury is well on its way organising its fourth Food and Drink Festival. Started in 2007, developed with rip roaring success each year over the past three years, 2010 is promising to be even better. This year, there are many more events happening throughout the area, a growing number of local food and drink related businesses are joining in. From bakeries to cheese and honey makers, vineyards and farms, smokehouses and mills, restaurants and pubs all coming together to celebrate the very best food and drink that our wonderful and fruitful area has to offer. During the Festival, visitors and locals will have the chance to enjoy experiences that money alone cannot buy, including the opportunity to jump the many year’s waiting list to tour the gardens belonging to HRH The Prince of Wales at Highgrove, enjoying lunch or dinner afterwards. Experience The Cotswold Chef, Rob Rees MBE in action or get up close and personal with Telegraph columnist, chef and author Xanthe Clay during the Sunday Market |

There’s lots of opportunities to journey through an exhaustive list of local ales, lager, wines and liqueurs from hostelries including The Snooty Fox – where you can meet Fred their Great Dane (and if you ask nicely you can sometimes even take him for a walk). Or there is The Priory Inn, who were awarded a Silver Dining Pub of the Year Award by Taste of The West in 2006, 2007 and 2008; they also collected a Cotswold Life Food and Drink Award for the Most Distinctive Local Menu in 2006 and 2007. Another award winner is The Ormonds at Tetbury and they were judged the winner of the Most Distinctive Local Menu in the 2008 Cotswold Life Food and Drink Awards, together with a Bronze Award from Taste of The West in 2007 and 2008. Be sure to include The Chef’s Table in your visit, owned and run by Sarah and Michael Bedford, formerly of the Trouble House on the edge of Tetbury. Whilst there Michael was awarded a much coveted Michelin star in recognition of the quality of his food. A little further afield can be found the highly acclaimed Calcot Manor and Whatley Manor – whose head chef Martin Burge, this year won his second Michelin star. Strolling through the Market place on the Sunday you will be able to sample from a wide variety of stalls offering all manner of tasty delights – there is even a special eco friendly Tetbury Bag available to ensure you get all your purchases safely home. |
